Computers & internet


Computers in the library

Microsoft Office 2013 is available on all in-library computers. The Adobe Creative Cloud which includes various software  is available on adult computers 1 and 10 and youth computer 1. CD burners are available on adult internet computers. Library databases are available both remotely and on all in-library computers; see our online resources for more information.

Internet computers are available to patrons as a privilege, not as an automatic right or as an obligation of the library. Internet use privileges may be modified and or suspended in their entirety, at the discretion of the library.

Adult Services:

  • 14 computers available with unfiltered internet. Allowance of 1 hour of internet access per day. Extensions are available at the discretion of staff.
  • Must be 18 and older with a valid Chicago Ridge library card to access internet at no charge.
  • Additional 6 laptop computers available for use in the library (see Library of Things for more information).
  • Patrons without a Chicago Ridge library card can request a free 15 minute internet pass or purchase a 60 minute pass for $1.00 if additional time is needed.
  • Cardholders with a fine of over $5 on their card must pay $1 per hour for Internet use until the fine is resolved.
  • Adult Services computers may be reserved for one hour up to two days in advance. Reservations may be made in person or over the phone.
  • All public computers shut down 10 minutes prior to closing time and work will be lost if not saved on a flash drive or emailed before shutdown. It is the responsibility of patrons to pay attention to time left and extend time when given the computers alerts them.

Youth Services:

  • 9 computers featuring filtered internet access are available.
  • High school students can use the unfiltered internet computers in Adult Services with parental or legal guardian permission.
  • 2 computers loaded with children’s games are available in Youth Services.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi access is available for patrons with laptops and other internet enabled devices. To connect to our network, connect to CRPL Public WiFi. Our sign-in page should open on its own, but if it doesn't, open your browser and attempt to access any site. You will be redirected to a page with our terms of Wi-Fi use. Press the green button at the bottom of the page to agree to the terms and start using our Wi-Fi. There is no time limit on Wi-Fi use, but our Wi-Fi goes offline 10 minutes before we close.
